

Kyung Sun Choi Bio
After beginning her music studies in Korea, soprano Kyung Sun Choi continued her education in the United States, culminating in her selection as a Grand Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Since then, she has enjoyed a successful career in both opera and concert, earning numerous awards and accolades.

Most recently, Ms. Choi gave a recital in Houston and performed with the Theater Brigade at Carnegie Hall in Opera Shorts. She also appeared in concert in Luxembourg as a winner of the Nei Stemmer International Competition. Operatic highlights include singing Adina in L’elisir d’amore with Nevada Opera and Rosina in excerpts from Il barbiere di Siviglia at Merkin Hall. She also performed Gounod’s Gallia with the Peniel Concert Choir.

On the West Coast, Ms. Choi portrayed Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly with Martinez Opera. In her native Seoul, she was a soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. She has collaborated frequently with the Peniel Concert Choir in New York, performing at venues such as Merkin Hall, Avery Fisher Hall and the John Harms Center for the Arts in New Jersey.
Ms. Choi participated in the New York City Opera VOX Showcase of American Composers, premiering two new works. Internationally, she appeared in Poland with Mid-America Productions in the title role of Rossini’s Ermione, sang Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor with the Israel Vocal Institute, and performed Ilia in Mozart’s Idomeneo with the Manhattan Chamber Symphony.

Her diverse operatic repertoire includes Pamina, Susanna, Zerlina, Norina, Micaëla, Juliette, and Blanche in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites. She made her operatic debut with Virginia Opera as Violetta in La Traviata and was previously a member of their Young Artist Program.

On the concert stage, Ms. Choi made her Carnegie Hall debut in Fauré’s Requiem under the baton of John Rutter. She has also performed Haydn’s Theresienmesse and Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor with the Stamford Symphony Orchestra, Brahms' German Requiem with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, and Handel’s Messiah and Sing Unto the Lord with the Peniel Concert Choir at Avery Fisher and Merkin Halls.

As the winner of the Liederkranz Foundation Competition, she was awarded a solo recital at Alice Tully Hall. She has also won top prizes in the New Jersey State Opera Competition, the Gerda Lissner Foundation Competition and the Schuyler Foundation for Career Bridges Competition. Additionally, she received the Hugh Ross Award from the Sullivan Foundation and has been recognized by many other prestigious competitions throughout her illustrious career.
