South Korean bass-baritone Yohan Yi has been a full-time chorister at The Metropolitan Opera since the 2014-2015 season. He has sung solo roles in La Bohème, Carmen, Macbeth, La Traviata, Roberto Devereux, and La fille du régiment at the Metropolitan Opera. Yi is also an alumnus of the prestigious Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program at LA Opera, where he was part of the program from 2009 to 2011. After completing the Domingo Program, Yohan returned to LA Opera to sing the title role in Noé in Noe’s Fludde in 2013.

His debut performance as Scarpia in Tosca with the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra Opera was well-received. He also performed Haydn’s Heiligmesse at the Cincinnati May Festival and made his Ravinia Festival debut in 2011 as the Jailor in Tosca, both conducted by James Conlon.

Yohan has covered numerous roles at The Metropolitan Opera, including Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, conducted by Plácido Domingo, and Marullo and Monterone in Rigoletto. Other roles he has covered include Selim in Il turco in Italia, Dulcamara in The Elixir of Love, and Alberich in Götterdämmerung (conducted by James Conlon). He also performed King Belshazzar in The Festival Play of Daniel at LA Opera, conducted by Conlon. Additionally, he participated in the Opera Highlights and Zarzuela concert, conducted by Plácido Domingo, which was broadcast live on FM radio.

Yi is a winner of several prestigious vocal competitions, including the 2013 Opera Index Vocal Competition and the 2014 Licia Albanese-Puccini Competition. He also won first prize in the 2011 Connecticut Opera Guild Voice Competition and placed fifth in the 2011 Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition. Yohan was selected as a winner in the 2010 Pasadena Opera Guild Competition and took first prize in the Heida Hermanns Voice Competition in 2008. He was also awarded by Opera Buffs in 2011.
